More About Dr. Hunt

Patricia Hunt is the Edward R. Meyer Distinguished Professor in Life and Environmental Science in the School of Molecular BioSciences. Her research is focused on determining why, as women age, they are at increased risk of producing chromosomally abnormal children.

Dr. Hunt examines germ cell development to understand the genetic control of sex determination and the meiotic process (cell division that halves the number of chromosomes in reproductive cells) in mammals. Her research involves studies of both humans and mice.

Dr. Hunt earned a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University. She received a master’s degree and Ph.D. in anatomy and reproductive biology from the University of Hawaii in 1983. Later she completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the M.R.C. Mammalian Development Unit in London and worked as a research associate at The Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor, Maine.

Prior to joining WSU in January 2005, Dr. Hunt was a faculty member in the Department of Pathology and the Winship Cancer Center at Emory University. Most of her research funding is provided by the National Institutes of Health.

Dr. Hunt loves to hike in her spare time and looks forward to exploring the many hiking trails in the Pacific Northwest. She is married to Terry Hassold, the Eastlick Distinguished Professor in Biological Sciences.
