Description

Dr. Oliver is the founder and director of the WSU Spokane CityLab, a fully equipped, laboratory-based teaching and learning center providing experience in inquiry-based teaching methods and laboratory instruction in biology, chemistry, and biotechnology. WSU Spokane CityLab provides workshop training for teachers, after-school and summer science camps for middle and high school students, and a catalog of student workshops. Since 1995, Dr. Oliver and CityLab staff have brought in nearly $1 million in support from private, state, and federal sources.

Dr. Oliver is also the assistant director in the Health Research and Education Center (HREC) at WSU Spokane. In this position she assists in writing foundation and federal grants to support basic and clinical research projects administered through the HREC and for coordinating research activities in HREC’s basic research laboratories.

Dr. Oliver is a member of the Board of Directors of the Spokane Math, Engineering Science Achievement (MESA) Program; a member of the Regional Council of the Northwest Association for Biomedical Research (NWABR); and a consultant for Program Development for the Sacred Heart Children's Hospital in Spokane, WA. She is also an adjunct faculty member for the Science Mathematics Engineering Education Center in the College of Science at Washington State University.

Dr. Oliver has received the following academic awards: Woman of Distinction Award, 2000, Girl Scouts Inland Empire Council, Spokane, WA; YWCA Spokane Woman of the Year Achievement Award, Professional Category, November, 1999; Faculty Excellence Award, WSU Spokane, 1998; Harriet B. Rigas Award, Outstanding Woman in Graduate Studies (Doctoral Candidate), Association of Faculty Women, WSU, 1993.

Dr. Oliver is also co-founder of a biotechnology company, Bio-OriGyn, which develops biomedical products to enhance cell function. She holds seven patents through the company.
